Back in March, due to the Covid-19 pandemic, The Scout Association banned all face to face Scouting activities. This included our committee meetings and Annual General Meeting. As a registered charity we still have to abide by the rules, albeit amended, of The Charity Commission and The Scout Association. This caused the Group a few problems which we have been working to overcome.
In order to comply with the filing of an annual report to the Charity Commission the Group Executive proposed that the audited Annual Accounts be circulated to all members of the existing Group Executive Committee for their approval prior to circulating them to all parents and supporters via the Group website. It was also proposed that all existing members of the Executive Committee be asked to continue for a further year, or until the Group can hold an Annual General Meeting. These proposals were advised to the Charity Commission when we asked for an extension to the deadline for filing the report. This extension was granted by the Charity Commission at the beginning of October.
It will be noticed that the Group funds appear in a very healthy condition but what needs to be borne in mind is that a substantial amount of our savings is earmarked for major repairs (which need to be done as a matter of urgency) to the Scout Hut roof. Due to long term leaking of the roof there is now some major work required in the toilet area which we must also rectify. We are in the hands of Covid-19 as to when the work will be completed but we will do it as soon as we are able.
The Group Executive Committee, who are also the charity trustees, have examined these accounts and agreed to them being published as an accurate record. They have also agreed to continue for another year as trustees.
